Who Are We?
We are the undergraduate students, graduate students, and instructor of a New Media & Rhetoric course at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. We began our semesters with the goals of composing ethical and accessible multimodal pieces, clearly and concisely, with the needs of our target audiences at their center. After we had developed several pieces in different modes, we selected some of our favorite ones to present our work here on this site.
What is this site?
This site displays the work of UAH undergraduate and graduate students who have spent a semester studying multimodal composition through acts of creating their own multimodal pieces. As you explore our site, you will find pieces representing foci in visual, linguistic, aural, spatial, and gestural modes.
We composed:
- visual pieces, including infographics and short videos, using Canva, PowToon, and other programs
- linguistic pieces that represent traditional synthesis essays, using Microsoft Word and Google docs
- aural pieces investigating a variety of ethical issues composed with various editing software and uploaded as podcast episodes
- spatial pieces created using the movement of Prezi
- gestural pieces using Microsoft Sway that explain gestural phenomena.
Each piece has been peer-reviewed by an editorial board composed of graduate students from the class and selected by the class for publication on this site.
